First, station ownership notified employees that the company was “ceasing operations” for “1450 ESPN” WBSR Pensacola on Wednesday (May 31). And then, quite abruptly, the station was taken off the air, according to the Pensacola News Journal.
The station had been an ESPN Radio affiliate since June 2011 after flipping from AC under the ownership of Easy Media. Now, with an ownership change and a new format forthcoming, only static can be heard when tuning into the station’s signal. It was sold to a former VP of Easy Media, Dan Brewer, in April 2016.
The loss of ESPN Radio network programming means the market is also missing local sports broadcaster Paul Chestnutt and his “Sports Roundtable” program, which aired from 11am-12pm, and Chad Brillante’s “The Drive” afternoon show. The station also broadcast Pensacola Ice Flyers games, which Chestnutt called the action for. ESPN Pensacola has also aired New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans games during their seasons.
