SAA’S business rescue position – Bankrupt SOE will be restructured,no further bailouts to be handed out – Are their wings finally cut?

Minister Pravin Gordhan’s stance at a board meeting of the bankrupt SA Airways has sent shock waves, the councilors as well as the shipping company’s worker are totally stunned by the so-called “business rescue position” that will be exercised without any delay.

The minister also confirmed in a statement that the board of the airlines has now adopted a resolution this cash strapped entity will be restructured, and that the government can no longer provide financial assistance.

Experts point out that this is the last effort to keep the state-owned entity standing(SOE), saying SAA’s life could drastically be shortened if they do not retrench about 1,000 redundant workers, and freezing salary adjustments for the next two years.

Passengers stranded after numerous SA Airlines flights canceled due to irregularities with recent audit report

Many flights from the SA Airways and its subsidiaries such as Comair have canceled flights because an audit report showed that aircraft were forbidden to take off.

The SA Aerospace Technical Division released the audit, which shows that there are “irregularities” that emerged with the audit.

Exactly what irregularities at SAL Technically led to the booths of dozens of aircraft, remains unclear.

Large-scale confusion prevailed at local airports on Tuesday after airlines were forced to cancel or delay domestic flights following a notice issued by the South African Civil Aviation Authority related to the “finding of irregularities” that must be corrected first.

Informed sources say SAA, Kulula, Mango and Comair airlines were affected, passengers had to be shuffled around on Tuesday after some of the aircrafts were not allowed to take off for safety reasons. Airlines transports illegal aliens to SA even though Immigration Act of 2002 states that no one can enter the country without a passport

According to the Foreign Minister, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi, eight airlines have been fined more than R31 million over the past 2 years after illegal aliens were brought into the country during flights.

The Immigration Act of 2002 states that no one is allowed to enter the country without a passport. Undocumented immigrants may be arrested without a warrant. Despite the fact that eight airlines were ordered to raise R8.8 million in 2016-17, they did not pay and breached on a larger scale, with fines amounting to R22.6 million in the following financial year.

Emirates faces fines of R2.67 million and R6.96 million, respectively, and tops the list of offenders, with the South African Airways (SAA) second, with fines of R2.16 million and R4.44 million. The other culprits are Ethiopian Airlines (R1.7 million and R4.1 million), Kenya Airways (R390 000 and R2.34 million), British Airways (R975 000 and R1.35 million), Qatar Airways (R435 000 and R1, 34 million), Rwandair (R225 000 and R1.26
