Die Italiaanse energiemaatskappy Eni het Maandag beweer dat ‘n buitelandse gasprojek in die noorde van Mosambiek, wat deur die ISIS geweld getref is, steeds op dreef is om, ondanks die onrus, in 2022 te begin werk, maar daar bestaan twyfel oor die lewensvatbaarheid van eksplorasie-terreine vir vloeibare aardgas (LNG) buite Afungi-skiereiland in Mosambiek, sedert militante die kusdorp Palma in Maart aangeval het.

Die dodelike klopjag op die operasionele middelpunt van die projekte, het die Franse oliereus Total genoop om die werk aan ‘n massiewe LNG-projek van $ 20 Miljard (R284 miljard) – die grootste enkele belegging in Afrika – op te skort en ‘n ‘force majeure’ te verklaar en alle personeel te ontruim.

French oil company Total announced on Thursday morning that it had drilled a column of gas near the South African coast.

Total says the discovery is of great importance to the South African economy, and the possibility of low grade oil is not excluded.

The gas has been drilled about 175 kilometers from the south coast, which is considered a huge breakthrough.

However, the borehole had to be sunk 3,633 meters deep, but Total is satisfied that a good discovery has been made.

The drill was done by Total with its most modern equipment that made the discovery so much faster, and plans to continue its search for oil.
