The International Monetary Fund (IMF) criticized South Africa and the government for its intended free education at tertiary institutions. The spokesman said the country should rather concentrate on free education with a good standard in primary and secondary schools so that they can achieve good results with post school studies.
South Africa should do a lot more to provide better primary and secondary school education, which requires much more money and deserves the first attention.
The main issue is totally ignored if post school education is offered free of charge while the foundation of the pupils is not good, the spokesman said.
Educators say government’s poor primary and secondary education policies, together with a serious lack of properly trained teachers are among the main reasons why so many students fail to complete their field of study.
