A man who drove all the way from Velddrif to the West Coast to fetch his children and grandchildren at the Cape Town station is furious after the train only arrived there more than nine hours later.
James Swart says his children were on the Shosholoza Meyl, which was delayed about nine hours due to various technical problems.
They allegedly boarded the train at Klerksdorp on Sunday at 15:00. When he arrived in Cape Town at about 7.30 pm on Tuesday, there was no sign of the train. The train first arrived at the station at 4 am.
Swart’s children say the train apparently stood at Beaufort West Station for almost two hours and then another couple of hours at Lion Gamka.
“This meant that the train was almost nine hours late. No one informs the passengers or their family, who will pick them up at the station, ”Swart told Netwerk24.
During this time, he and his children lost contact due to a poor cellphone signal.
