An Afrikaans teacher at a prestigious private school in Durban Westville was suspended after she allegedly told the children that white children are generally smarter than children of color.
An investigation by the education department will determine the fate of the teacher. In 2018, an English teacher resigned to allegations that she used the offended K-word. The reality is that children of different cultures and religions think, reason and visualize differently because of their background and environment.
Use of language can have an inhibitory effect on a child if he / she is not taught in the mother tongue. The guideline still remains that a Zulu child is raised by a Zulu teacher and an African-Christian child by a teacher who shares the same creed, ethos and culture.
