South Africa’s economic crisis is causing increasing violence, and is linked to several factors, the poor growth rate of less than 0.5% being a scapegoat.
Compared to the previous year, about 25,000 jobs became available, but that’s a drop in the bucket against the myriad of school leavers of 598,000 who want to enter the job market.
The SA Statistics Service’s most recent report thus shows that 24 people enter the job market but for them there is only one job available, leaving the other 23 unemployed.
The non-agricultural occupations in employment continue to show a declining trend among the various categories, which means a loss of nearly 150,000 jobs.
The agricultural sector has the same trend, while private households offer about 45,000 fewer jobs than a year ago.
According to economists, the reduction in jobs is attributed to the poor economy and the rising labor costs caused mainly by unions.
