Two officials from the Department of Justice, Free State arrested for fraud

Officials from the Department of Justice and Constitutional Affairs appeared in the Zastron Magistrate’s Court, Free State on charges of fraud.

A former manager in the courts, one Desmond Mokhobo, 32, and his colleague, Mxolisi Kakalatsa, 38, who served as an administrative clerk, is charged with fraud amounting to about R380,000.

The two men were arrested last week by the Corruption Unit, which investigated the alleged fraud at the department from 2018 to July 2019.

Allegations are being made that the two accused will be prosecuted for their share in the theft of fines, bail, court fines, all of which had to be handled by the Department.

A second charge of money laundering and other offences was also presented to the court, which both received an R2,000 bail, and was ordered to return to court on January 8, 2020.

New Eskom CEO faces huge challenges, first task is to unbundle the state entity

Andre de Ruyter started his duties as Chief Executive Officer of Eskom six days earlier by visiting each of the power plants individually to familiarize himself with the circumstances of each of them.

The new Eskom boss has an enormous task upon his hands, with the first task assigned to him, to unbundle Eskom into various entities. This will be executed amid unions that are strongly opposing to the unbundling due to for fear of unemployment.

There is an uncertainty about what his assignment looks like in terms of the recovery process to remove Eskom from the financial foes, but experts say it will require more than one man’s skills to correct the mess that has been made over 25 years.

In recent weeks, Eskom has constantly threatened that load shedding will be implemented if consumers are no longer frugal with power consumption, while Ramaphosa has promised that load shedding will not resume before mid-January.

The brazen theft of at least 20 fully automatic R4 rifles from the Lyttelton South African National Defence Force Base  has sparked outrage and fear.

“Gun Owners of South Africa (Gosa) would like the public to know that these rifles are capable of fully automatic fire, civilians cannot buy these firearms.

“These will most likely go on to be used by cash in transit gangs, gangsters or violent criminals.

“This is just the latest in a very long line of case studies proving that the State is the very worst custodian of our security,” said Gosa chairperson Paul Oxley.

SANDF spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini yesterday confirmed the break-in at Engineering Formation, Lyttelton Tek Base.

“Investigations are underway, and a few suspects have been taken in for questioning,” Dlamini said.

Oxley noted it was the armed citizenry who were “the thin line protecting our beautiful nation from sliding into ruin”.

409 Farm attacks and 56 farm murders in 2019 – Slaughter of white farmers in SA increases, especially in rural areas

The massacre in rural areas has increased in recent years, according to the latest figures on farm attacks and murders.

Henry Geldenhuys, deputy president of the agricultural organization TAU SA, says that according to their statistics, there were 409 farm attacks in 2019 compared to 395 farm attacks in 2018, during the same period 56 murders on farms tenor 53 of the previous year. However, he continues by stating that the figures may be even higher as December is not over.

According to Geldenhuys, there were even farm attacks on Christmas Day in Harding respectively in KwaZulu-Natal, where a farmer was attacked with a knife, in Kakamas in the Northern Cape, where a family was attacked, and in Bapsfontein in Gauteng, where a farmer was assaulted. He says crimes such as murder, armed robbery and stock theft increase every year and when it comes to crime prevention, one can never be too paranoid, especially when living in the countryside and doing business.

Fort Hare University collapses and once again apartheid is to blame for the decline

What went wrong with Fort Hare University collapsing, and why has the media been silent for so long about the true facts?

These are the questions that are currently hanging in the air after it became known that an overall investigation into the university has not yet been completed.

Two prominent academics, prof. Chris Brink, a prof. Louis Molanu, has many questions asked about the hierarchy, to which there are apparently no answers as of yet.

The two professors have been appointed as assessors to determine why the university has deteriorated so drastically.

Their finding probably lifted the curtain only slightly on what happened when Fort Hare finally collapsed soon after the university’s board split.

In the end, the answer that so easily throws all the blame away from those responsible: The University is still suffering from the injustice of apartheid.

Brics Bank borrows bankrupt Eskom ‘R6 billion’ for battery system – Will the SOE ever be able to repay the loan and what happens if he is unable to do so?

The bankrupt power provider has obtained a loan from the Brics Bank carried by five counties in the world, of which South Africa is one.

Eskom has secured a loan of R6bn with the aim to “store” electricity, which will work through a battery system.

The system will allow Eskom to store 360 MW across four provinces, but there are some resignations about the efficiency of its system, and some experts believe the money could have been better spent on setting up solar farms.

There are also concerns about Eskom’s ability to repay the loan at set times.

Black advantage at the expense of the entire country and its residents does not work – “Bring white engineers back to save Eskom from ruin” asks NUMSA union

Skill, knowledge, competence, reliability, and realistic remuneration have won over the ideology of black favoritism at the expense of the entire country and its inhabitants.

The trade union Numsa has now, after 25 years of other thinking, called on the regime to put together a team of experts in collaboration with the unions to save Eskom from ruin.

The experts, comprising a list of some 350 engineers, must be brought back to support the new leader in the Eskom network.

Numsa says the power provider does not have the human resources to do the necessary maintenance at the power stations.

Observers and expert engineers say it is striking that Numsa is suddenly taking a turn around over the expertise to be brought back, while screaming for 25 years against the whites employed.

ANC now wants to ‘nationalise’ all sporting bodies in SA

Government catches administrators off guard, risks the country being banned

Government has published a draft bill which will “nationalise” all sporting bodies such as SA Rugby, Cricket SA and Athletics SA, a move that could also see the minister of sport being directly involved in team selection.

The bill is so expansive that it even includes some sort of national service for athletes and the power to jail sports people for certain offences.

It also proposes to transfer nearly all the powers currently held by sporting bodies to a deputy director-general of the department of sport and recreation.

The Amendment Bill on Sport and Recreation, published just before Christmas, has caught the country’s sports administrators off guard.

ANC regime’s Christmas gift to SA! Government wants to speed up the stealing of land this Christmas holidays – Expropriation suddenly accelerates

The draft version of the constitutional amendment to change Article 25 of the Constitution, where the ANC regime can apply expropriation without compensation, was switched to a faster acceleration last Tuesday. The onset happened at a meeting of the ad hoc committee on the amendment of art. 25.

The proposed initial wording of the law amendment reads that a court may rule that legitimate and equitable compensation for a piece of land expropriated in the interest of land reform may be zero. However, it must be in accordance with national law that sets out specific circumstances within which a court may decide that a zero value can be legitimate and fair compensation.

The parliamentary legal advisers have pointed out that nothing in the process is removed from the constitutional article – the above is merely added. This would mean that compensation for expropriated land is the amount determined either by the parties or by the court.
