A man will appear in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court in KwaZulu-Natal today on a charge of kidnapping.
The 29-year-old man was arrested Thursday afternoon after an incident in a shopping mall in Umhlanga, Brig said. Police spokesman Jay Naicker said.
A 57-year-old grandmother was on the day with her two-year-old grandson in the mall. “She was making a payment when an unknown man picked up her grandson sitting in a trolley and left.”
[embed]https://youtu.be/v2RVp8Qf-KM[/embed]Naicker said the panicked grandmother started running around the mall and calling to her grandson. “She saw a man walking into one of the shops in a security guard uniform with her grandson.”
The grandmother grabbed her grandson from the man’s arms and immediately reported the incident to the mall’s management, after which police were called.
