#ParasiticParastatal Eskom seems to have a strange idea about what a performance bonus is and why it actually gets paid. It secretly wants to spend R1,8 BILLION on performance bonuses for the current and following 2 years, even as we face phase 4-6 “load shedding” at the moment and it seems like daily rolling blackouts will be with us for quite some time.

According to Rapport Eskom did not disclose this fact to the public and NERSA (National Energy Regulator of South Africa) found out about this all by itself. It is not a new occurrence either as in 2017 Eskom paid out R4, 2 BILLION in bonuses, so they cannot claim ignorance. If that amount is evenly divided amongst Eskom’s 47658 employees, it amounts to R88,000 per employee!

In 2016 bonuses amounted to R2,1 BILLION. Last year Eskom did not want to give bonuses but were forced to give R10,000 each to more than 30,000 employees after they were convinced to go on strike. That amount was on top of a raise of 7, 5% for the n

SA Reserve Bank’s worst-case scenario fast becoming a reality – economy to lose 1.1 percentage points in growth, leading to the loss of 125 000 job opportunities

The SA Reserve Bank’s worst-case scenario, which would see the country’s economy lose 1.1 percentage points in growth and lead to the loss of 125 000 job opportunities, is fast becoming a reality.

The central bank’s latest forecasts predict that the economy will sacrifice 0.4 percentage points in GDP growth if Eskom’s availability factor declines to 65% for a few months.

If the power station fleet staggers to 60% availability, the expectation is that 1.1 percentage points will be lost.

Up until last week, Eskom had only been able to deliver 63% of its installed capacity.

The past week saw a historic low for Eskom, with the ailing state-owned enterprise being forced to implement stage 6 load shedding (rolling blackouts).
The current wave of rolling blackouts is the fourth time that extensive blackouts have occurred in South Africa since 2007.

#Rollingblackouts – To prevent further damages Eskom announce Phase 2 load shedding for Friday

South Africans will have to prepare for more power outages this weekend after Eskom announces that Phase 2 load shedding will take effect from 09:00 to 23:00 Friday. According to their latest statement, the bankrupt state entity says their system is still vulnerable.

Although the power grid units are recovering as scheduled, they also lost additional operating units on Thursday.

“Load shedding is essential throughout the night and all day Friday to prevent further short circuits and capacity to pump water reserves for us.”

The goal is to reduce unplanned short circuits to 9,500 MW to enable them to minimize and stop load shedding next week.

“Regardless of the phase, we want to remind our customers that load shedding is no cause for panic as the system is successfully controlled.”

Cyril rushes back to Eskom and cuts visit to Egypt short amidst electricity crisis which holds serious economic consequences for SA

Opposition parties expressed their dismay when the ANC president, Cyril Ramaphosa, went to Egypt amidst #rollingblackouts occurred all over South-Africa this past week. He had to cut his less important visit to short and returned to South Africa to talk to the heads of Eskom about the crisis load shedding has on the finances of SA.

Observers point out that Eskom suddenly announced on Wednesday that it is switching back to Phase 2 load shedding, but experts say the major damage has already been done.

Several opposition politicians have made urgent requests for Ramaphosa to return, but observers say this is not just an electricity crisis, but has serious economic consequences for the faltering economy of South Africa.

Dumb Twit!! SA will overcome load shedding like apartheid, says Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the energy crisis currently faced by the country will soon come to an end.

South Africans have expressed frustration, as Eskom battles to keep the lights on with stage 4 load shedding currently in place and was expected to last until 11pm.

Ramaphosa, speaking in Sharpeville on Thursday in his Human Rights Day speech, said he put measures in place to ensure that the country comes out of the dark.

“We will overcome this electricity crisis that is engulfing our country at this moment. We will overcome it just as we overcame the apartheid challenge,” he said.

HOW POWER CUTS COULD AFFECT SA’S GDP GROWTH
Severe planned power cuts at Eskom are expected to shave 0.3 percentage points off first-quarter GDP growth, Goldman Sachs said on Thursday.

Petra Diamonds halts SA mining operations over power cuts – Eskom will be to blame for the downfall of SA’s economy

Petra Diamonds has confirmed it received a notification from Eskom, asking it to reduce its load to the essential level.

As a result, it has announced it’s in the process of halting its mining operations in South Africa.

Petra Diamonds said all production, hoisting and processing have stopped with immediate effect at its operations in Cullinan, Finsch and Koffiefontein.

The company is removing all miners underground.

“Petra will update the market as soon as it receives a further notification as to how long the load curtailment will last, and therefore what impact this is likely to have upon the Company’s production performance,” the company said in a statement.

This came after Eskom announced stage six load shedding on Monday.

What a disgrace! Table Mountain Cableway: Visitors get stuck amid #Rollingblackouts

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company said power surges may have caused the failure of its generator.

The impact of load shedding is being felt across the country, as Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) on Monday confirmed that visitors got stuck on top of the mountain.

In a statement on Monday evening, TMACC said: “TMACC can confirm that visitors who were stuck on the top of the mountain earlier today, when our backup generator failed to kick into gear, are now being safely brought down from the mountain. Power surges are believed to have caused the failure of our generator.”

Meanwhile, visitors who were at the bottom were offered free tickets for an alternative day after the incident.

In its latest application to the energy regulator, the power utility is claiming this as an underrecovery for 2018/19, meaning tariffs may rise by 16.6% next year

Eskom, which last week again saw a collapse of its power network that led to nationwide load shedding, wants consumers to cough up a further R27 billion for electricity.

The national energy regulator Nersa has published Eskom’s latest application for public comment.

In it, the power utility said this was the amount that it underrecovered in 2018/19, and that it therefore wanted R27 billion more through power tariffs.

Although Eskom suggested that whatever Nersa granted should be added to electricity tariffs next year and the year thereafter, Nersa’s decision will likely be too late to influence 2020 tariff increases.

Debt ridden Eskom shutting down power plants it can’t afford to fix and increasing the risk of #rollingblackouts- We can thank the incompetent ANC-regime for this!

Eskom has permanently shut down several power generation units at older power stations due to its inability to fix them, the Sunday Times reports.

This decision has cut the power utility’s available electrical capacity to meet demand, which may increase the risk of load-shedding going forward.

Eskom said that the old power generation units at Hendrina, Grootvlei, and Komati which have been taken offline are not included in the utility’s current generation capacity of 46,000MW, despite not being formally decommissioned.

After shutting down older power plants, Eskom said it planned to resolve the problems at its newest Medupi and Kusile power stations, which have cost the company a significant amount while producing disappointing results.
Massive debt

Despite posting a R1.3-billion profit in the six months through September 2019, Eskom anticipates a R20-billion loss for the full year.
