De Ruyter, currently CEO of the packaging company Nampak, would be appointed Eskom CEO on January 15, 2020. The final cabinet meeting of 2019 instructed Public Enterprise Minister Pravin Gordhan to negotiate with André de Ruyter to take over the reins at Eskom earlier.
Presidency Minister Jackson Mthembu addressed reporters on Tuesday about the December 13 cabinet meeting. He said De Ruyter would lead efforts to stabilize the management and technical operations at the power supply.
“The Cabinet fully supports all efforts that ensure power supply in our country. The Cabinet therefore instructed Minister Pravin Gordhan to De Ruyter to negotiate to start his duties faster, ”Mthembu added.
