The South African Minister of Health has been placed on special leave until further notice by Cyril Ramaphosa, while the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) investigates allegations of corruption with Digital Vibes. Zweli Mkhize claimed he asked for time from his post while the investigation was ongoing, and asked to be temporarily replaced so he could fight the allegations of corruption against him, but no one believes it was voluntary.
“We did not discuss the issue of resignation. We discussed the issue of special leave pending the SIU report,” Mkhize said on Tuesday after speaking with Cyril. Mkhize is being investigated by the SIU over a contract awarded by his department to a company called Digital Vibes, which is managed by his former personal assistant, Tahera Mather, and former secretary, Naadhira Mitha.
The contract was awarded in 2019 for work on the National Health Insurance in South Africa, and the agreement was recently extended for activities
