Only 44 inspectors to cover 4184 hospitals and clinics in South Africa – the reason why many hospitals are in such a state of disrepair and why there is little to no service delivery

The Office of Health Standards Compliance has admitted that it does not have enough inspectors to inspect the approximately 4184 hospitals and clinics in South Africa due to a lack of money and other resources.

The FF Plus was shocked to learn that, according to the Office’s announcement, there are only 44 inspectors who have to do all the work in the entire country.

As a result, many hospitals and clinics are simply not inspected to ensure that they comply with the legal requirements for delivering safe and high-quality health care to South Africans. This institution falls under the National Health Act (12 of 2013).

This explains why the infrastructure at hospitals is in such a poor condition and why equipment is not maintained or in working order. There is no money available to fill the vacant positions.

Continuous service protests by barbaric protesters in SA threaten people’s safety

The incident near Uniondale in the Southern Cape where a farmer, according to media reports, shot at protesters who were reportedly participating in a violent protest action and blocking roads serves as proof that these service delivery protests can lead to the loss of life as members of the public may feel that their safety is being threatened.

The police are investigating a charge of attempted murder against the man, but one must ask to what degree his personal safety, the safety of his family and his property were under threat.

Every person in South Africa has the constitutional right to defend their personal safety as well the safety of their family and to prevent any damage to their property. Violent service delivery protests could compel other people to use violence in order to exercise this right of theirs.

Mahikeng, the former pride of North West for its cleanliness and progressive policies, is now overrun with potholes, refuse and debt. Driving is a gamble and drinking tap water is an extreme sport. Mthatha is much the same.

A song cut from one of motswako rapper Mo’ Molemi’s albums could provide the best evidence of just how long Mahikeng’s residents have endured driving on potholed streets.

The track Maspala (municipality) was supposed to have been included on the album Motsamai seven years ago.

In it, Molemi sings in Setswana: “Kere somebody thiba dipotholes, kara yame ya tlola every time I am on the road. Ke a go kopa maspala thiba di pothole; go konega rim every time I go home.”

Loosely translated, it says: “I say somebody fix the potholes; my car bounces every time I’m on the road. I beg of you municipality fix the potholes; rims get damaged every time I go home.”

Discovery apparently is more focused on profit than on service delivery to patients – patients signing in at certain hospitals now have to pay an extra R5000

Discovery’s medical scheme announced at a very late stage that patients signing in at certain hospitals would have to pay an extra R5000 or go to an approved clinic.

The arrangement will be implemented from February 1, 2019 and doctors are not happy with the announcement.

Experts point out that the medical scheme is apparently more focused on profit than on service delivery to patients.

Such new measures are found to be unacceptable by many members of the scheme, but it appears that objections to Discovery’s management and decision-makers have fallen on deaf ears.
