A truck was hijacked on Friday night on the N1 near Musina in Limpopo by three men wearing traffic police uniforms and using blue lights.
The truck carrying copper was hijacked about 8 km from the Beit Bridge border post near a weighbridge at about 19:50. The truck was travelling from the Democratic Republic of Congo to Durban at the time of the incident.
According to Brig. Police spokesman Motlafela Mojapelo is the truck driver and his wife stopped by three men in blue police traffic uniforms.
“The suspects forced the couple into the back of the truck and drove to the Doreen-Verbaard dirt road where they dropped off the couple.”
Police were immediately notified of the incident and the truck horse was later found abandoned. However, the trailers and copper were gone.
According to Mojapelo, another truck is thought to have been used to tow the trailers.
