Jacob Zuma has to undertake a renewed round of court battles, and he is now begging his supporters to help pay his legal costs.
A post on the Zuma Foundation’s official Twitter page, contains banking information and a brief overview of why the former president turned to the public to alleviate his financial problems. Zuma’s corruption trial is set to resume next month, and even though his money is finished, he still wants to get a revocation application against the constitutional court.
Msholozi, as his supporters call him, is no stranger to the courtroom, and that is putting it mildly. His second term as president was subject to lawsuits, many of which cost millions over the years. While he still appears in front of various judges, it seems as if the pit has dried up – and it’s up to his fans to find the money.
What some would see as an opportunity to support their political hero, others would call a shameless cash grab. However, the JGZ Foundation is determined that their request is legal:
“Dear people of South Africa and the world, please help. This is a humble call to support former president Jacob Zuma’s legal costs. We humbly ask for donations of support to help cover the legal costs of our patron.”
Jacob Zuma’s medical team missed the deadline to submit a report on his suitability to stand trial earlier this week. The court gave Zuma’s military doctors until Friday, August 20, 2021, to make submissions, but his legal team could not hand over the medical examination.
The former president, who has to serve 15 months behind bars due to contempt of court, underwent several medical procedures last week and is still being treated in hospital. He was admitted due to an unknown medical condition related to his poisoning on a trip to the US.
