Malicious Negligence? The ANC’s Minister of Home Affairs, Aaron Motsoaledi, recently announced yet another extension of visas for foreigners in South Africa, however, he has bizarrely refused to, or is incapable of making any arrangements for South Africans stuck abroad, whose passports will expire as a result of the extended lockdowns worldwide.
The DA called on Minister Motsoaledi to urgently facilitate passport extensions for South African nationals stuck abroad without any further delay. According to Section 21(4) of the Constitution, every citizen has the right to a passport and for those South Africans stuck abroad, the expiry of their passport could mean dire consequences for their immigration status, visas, work, travel and ability to access healthcare.
