Zuma branded as defaulter, owes R12,517 for unpaid school fees, maybe he must consider subsidy?

It is not only the arrears of the Nkandla bond that make Zuma a defaulter, but also the fact that his children’s unpaid school fees earns him the title.

The liquidators of the bankrupt declared VBS Bank now hope to get their money by auctioning the Nkandla unit, but it is still a lengthy process before it is going to happen.

Political analysts say Zuma has the ability to postpone all actions and court cases against him with reasons that are sometimes somewhat laughable.

Whether the former ANC leader has no money and whether he is merely a defaulter remains an unanswered question, because to date one of his children’s school fees is also overdue.

A high school near Durban has now issued an order against Zuma and his fourth wife, one Nompumelelo Ntuli, 44, for unpaid school fees amounting to R12,517-00.

Reona Ramnarain, of the Bentley Attorneys, confirmed that the bill was unpaid, but the school’s name was not disclosed for some reasons.

Taxpayers fork out millions for 703 vacant state-owned buildings

The poor management of state-owned buildings costs the country’s taxpayers millions of rands annually.
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure owns about 81,000 buildings, 703 of which are vacant. Only the property tax on these unused buildings amounted to R36 million in the 2018/19 financial year.

In addition, there is a major backlog with the maintenance of buildings and it is estimated to cost about R74 billion to fully renovate all the buildings.

To aggravate the problem, various government departments’ monthly rents are outstanding for a period of longer than five years. This amount is about R600 million. Treasury owes itself R127m in arrears.

If the Justice, Correctional Services and Higher Education Departments can pay their rent, the other departments can do so.

Soweto owes Eskom more than R17 billion, still receives free power – culture of non-payment has now become a legacy of the ANC struggle

According to a report by the Gauteng Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) submitted to the Gauteng legislature’s CoGTA committee, Soweto owes Eskom more than R17 billion, which is half of the country’s debt to Eskom.

The information came to light last month when a FF Plus spokesperson, Amanda de Lange, announced it by way of a statement.

According to De Lange, “the default culture of electricity consumers in Soweto is probably the biggest cause of Eskom being forced to its knees”.

Soweto’s default has been going on for years and politicians have been trying unsuccessfully to persuade power consumers to pay portions of their debt. Threats to cut the power supply also serve no purpose. Residents insist the ANC promised free electricity and water to voters in their election pledges. The culture of non-payment has now become a legacy of the ANC struggle.
