The youngest official SANDF communication is still that none of the 19 R4 assault rifles discovered to be stolen at a SANDF base in Lyttleton, Pretoria on 23 December are found back yet, although a defense force union is claiming that the weapons were found in Hammanskraal.
It is also appears that the SANDF has no clue of what really happened, nor do they have direct evidence of who took the weapons or when it was taken. There was no forced entry burglary that was discovered. What happened was that a stocktake was conducted on 23 December and it was then that it was discovered that the weapons were missing.
Stocktaking is supposed to be conducted every month but this was not done. It looks like the SANDF then panicked and arrested everyone on duty that morning without evidence linking anyone to the crime.
