SA in crisis while ANC eats cake, celebrating its 108 years

The ruling Anc party,was holding a rally in Kimberley celebrating its 108 years.This celebration, which is usually accompanied by a jovial mood of song and dance by party leaders, members and supporters, happens during a time when the country has been plunged into several crises of epidemic proportions. Can the ANC really afford to celebrate? Can it afford to pop Champagne during such difficult times faced by the country?

Poverty levels are accelerating, inequality is deepening, unemployment levels have reached the highest percentage of 29.1% in the last quarter of 2019, the highest recorded by Statistics SA since 2008, with 9.6 million South Africans currently unemployed, 8.6 million of these being black.

The economy is battling to recover from a technical recession, with the country constantly facing a threat of being given junk status by rating agencies.

The ANC can no longer rule South Africa – unemployment rate highest in 11 years and increased to 29,1%

South Africa’s unemployment rate has increased by 0,1 of a percentage point to 29,1 percent in the third quarter compared to the second quarter, the highest it has been in 11 years.

Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) said on Tuesday that the number of employed persons increased by 62 000 while the number of unemployed persons increased by 78 000, resulting in an increase of 141 000 in the labour force.

The South African working-age population increased by 149 000 in the third quarter compared to the second quarter

There were approximately 10,3 million persons aged 15–24 years in the quarter, and 32.3 percent (or 3.3 million) of them were not in employment, education or training (NEET).

The number of discouraged work-seekers increased by 44 000 while the number of people who were not economically active for reasons other than discouragement decreased by 35 000 between the second and third quarters, resulting in a net increase of 9 000 in the not economic

We are in big trouble! With more firms shutting their doors ‘South Africa is getting poorer’ and paints a bleak picture of the state of the economy

According to the figures released by Statistics SA the number of liquidations increased by 24.9% in the second quarter of this year compared with the same period for last year.

The estimated number of insolvencies increased by 4.6% in May and a 15.2% increase was estimated in the first five months of this year.

Economist Mike Schussler said: “We are in trouble. A lot of firms are in trouble and South Africa is getting poorer. I think we are in a space where its not going to get easy getting the economy going.”

Schussler said the companies have felt a pinch where there has been little to no growth,

“There is no demand any more for certain industries and when there is no demand its difficult to match prices compared to other companies. We are not on our last leg just yet but we are in a very vulnerable position,” he said.

Nearly Half of Households in SA on Welfare – Rainbow Nation has become welfare state with over 45% of households relying on SASSA

More than 17 million “residents” of South Africa are currently receiving government grants. According to Statistics SA, more than 45% of households are dependent on state grants.

The rainbow country has become a well-being country and this means, among other things, that more and more non-marital children are growing.

Western Cape households are dependent on unmarried “children” who bring three to four children to life, who support the entire household, from Grandpa and Grandma to grandchildren.
