You may not know Steven De Groote, but he was the best pianist, here is a short Bio of him

Steven De Groote (1953–1989) was a South African classical pianist. Steven De Groote was born in Johannesburg, South Africa into a Belgian family in which, for three generations, almost every member had been a professional musician.

His grandmother was a recipient of the Prix de Rome in Belgium, and his father the conductor of the Cape Town University Symphony. As a youngster, De Groote toured South Africa performing trios with his father on violin and brother on cello.

He trained with Lamar Crowson in Cape Town, and with Eduardo del Pueyo at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels, graduating in 1971 with first prize in piano.

In 1972, De Groote entered the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia where he studied with Rudolf Serkin, Mieczysław Horszowski, and Seymour Lipkin. He graduated in 1975.

Hier is ‘n kort Bio oor die bekendste akteur, komediant en sanger Al Debbo

Al Debbo (1924–2011) was ’n legendariese akteur, komediant en sanger. Hy is bekend vir liedjies soos Sonbrilletjies, Hasie, Tantes van Nantes, Brakke van Turffontein en Bolandse nooientjie. Debbo het altesaam in twintig rolprente gespeel. Die eerste was Die kaskenades van dokter Kwak in 1948 en die laaste Oh Shucks I’m Gatvol in 2004.

Al Debbo se pa, Azar het in die vroeë 1900’s uit Libanon na Suid-Afrika geïmmigreer om te help om treinspore te bou. Hier het hy Al se ma, ook ’n Libanees, ontmoet en is hulle later getroud.[1] Hulle het hulleself in Bloemfontein gevestig waar die Debbos jare lank winkeliers was, en Al is hier op 22 Junie 1924 gebore.[2]

Hy begin sy werkloopbaan as ’n ambagsman, maar begin later om voltyds te sing. In 1948 speel hy as akteur in sy eerste rolprent, Die kaskenades van dokter Kwak.

Gehoor van Dawie Couzyn, wel hy was ‘n bekende sanger en ‘n liedjieskrywer

Mauritz David Wilhelmus (Dawie) Couzyn is op 27 Junie 1925 in Pretoria gebore en matrikuleer op Pietersburg.

Dawie Couzyn (1925–2010) was ‘n Suid-Afrikaanse sanger en skrywer. Hy verwerf bekendheid as internasionale operasanger (bariton), maar keer in die 1970’s op ‘n permanente basis na Suid-Afrika terug. Hy was ’n solis van die Weense Kämmeroper en het gereeld aan programme van die BBC in Londen en Radio Wien deelgeneem. As skrywer is hy bekend vir sy digkuns. Hy het ook talle gewilde liedjies vir Afrikaanse kinders saam met die sopraan Doris Brasch opgeneem.

Vir twaalf jaar lank is hy joernalis en hy stig selfs en is redakteur van die sosialistiese Afrikaanse tydskrif Die nuwe stem in Johannesburg, wat tot niet gaan net voor die 1948 verkiesings. Gedurende hierdie tyd neem hy as bariton sangles in Pretoria by die bekende skrywer Stella Blakemore en later in Johannesburg onder Margaret Roux, Bruce Anderson en veral Olga Ryss.Continue reading…

Coleske is a former South African music group consisting of the brothers Ewald (1970) and Arnold (1971).

The brother’s debut album, The Coleskes, was issued in 1989. In 1997, their song Take Me Where the Sun is Shining has been an international hit. In the same year, they were also honored with a Sama.

After that they founded Coleske Artists and moved their attention to the production side of music. Currently they are responsible for singers like Riana Nel, Lianie May and Jay. In addition to the management of artists, this company also handles productions such as Afrikaans is Groot and Classics is Groot.

‘N kort Bio oor Mimi Coertse:- die dame met die gou Operastem

Maria Sophia Coertse is op 12 Junie 1932 in Durban, Natal gebore. Sy matrikuleer aan die Hoër Meisieskool Helpmekaar in Johannesburg. In 1949 begin sy haar stemopleiding in Suid-Afrika. In Julie 1953 trou sy met die uitsaaier en komponis, Dawid Engela.

Sy verruil Suid-Afrika in September 1953 vir Londen, reis later na Den Haag en uiteindelik na Wene. Sy begin haar opleiding met Maria Hittorff en Josef Witt in Januarie 1954.

Coertse maak haar debuut in Januarie 1955 as die Eerste Blommemeisie in Richard Wagner se Parsifal by die Teatro San Carlo-teater in Napoli, Karl Böhm het begelei. Sy sing ook in Basle by die Teatro San Carlo. Op 17 Maart 1956 maak sy haar debuut by die Weense Staatsopera as die Koningin van die Nag in Die Towerfluit deur Mozart en bly aan by die Weense Staatsopera tot 1978. Haar Covent Garden-debuut was in 1956, in dieselfde rol. Sy het dié rol uiteindelik meer as 500 keer in vier tale (Duits, Engels, Frans en Italiaans) uitgev

Janita Claassen:- haar stem mag dalk stil wees, maar sy sal nooit vergeet word nie

Op 24 Oktober 2005 het Suid-Afrika een van die gewildste Afrikaanse kunstenaars verloor toe Janita Claassen aan kanker oorlede is.

Janita is op 30 April 1947 op die Noord-Kaapse dorp Warrenton gebore. Sy het matriek behaal aan die Hoërskool Vereeniging en daarna BA (HOD) aan die destydse Potchefstroomse Universiteit vir Christelike Hoër Onderwys gestudeer.

Sy het byna nege jaar lank skoolgehou. In 1976 het sy ’n oudisie geslaag om in ’n koffiehuiskonsert op televisie op te tree, maar dit was eers toe die Musiek-en-Liriekbeweging in 1979 ontstaan het dat sy in die musiekbedryf beland het.

In daardie jare het die bekende sanger Jannie du Toit musiekaande by sy huis naby die dieretuin in Pretoria gehou, en Janita was deel van die groep. Een van Janita se gereelde liriekskrywers, Babs Pretorius, het die woorde van een van die snitte op Jannie se debuutalbum, Liedjie vir jou, naamlik “Magnoliadal”, geskryf. Melindi Charle is very quiet these days, but here are a few things you need to know about her

Melindi Charle – South Africas Marilyn Monroe. Born in Durban, Melindi began her career in entertainment back at the tender age of 5. Singing and acting were her first calls to the world of entertainment.

After years singing and acting, acquiring numerous certificates in dance, theater and singing she got her big break with her debut E.P. “Ydelmens” back in 1999.

It was apparent from “Ydelmens” release that South Africa had a gem in Melindi. A sultry, sexy, versatile afrikaans pop, rock, folk, easy listening style singer with her blonde curls and superior voice that the limelight would call her soon.

Nico Carstens is dalk nie meer met ons nie, maar sy musiek sal veraltyd onthou word

Nicolaas Cornelius Carstens (1926–2016) was ‘n Suid-Afrikaanse trekklavierspeler, komponis en boereorkesleier. Carstens het letterlik honderde komposisies die lig laat sien en is veral bekend vir sy instrumentale treffer, Zambezi.

Carstens is op 10 Februarie 1926 in Kaapstad van Nederlandse ouers gebore. Hy kry sy eerste trekklavier op die ouderdom van 13 en wen sy eerste musiekkompetisie ses maande later. Hy komponeer sy eerste musiekstuk op die ouderdom van 17 en het daarna ongeveer ‘n verdere 1200 komposisies geskryf.

Hy het as 19-jarige in die orkes van Hendrik Susan begin speel en in 1950 sy eie orkes gestig. In 1959 word hy die eerste Suid-Afrikaanse kunstenaar wat ’n toekenning ontvang het vir die verkoop van meer as in miljoen musiekopnames.[2]

Sunette Bridges might be quiet, but her music will be remembered

Sunette Bridges is a South African music artist, the daughter of singing legend Bles Bridges, who once held a concert during the 1980s for the AWB’s People’s Help Scheme1 to raise money to feed the poorest of Afrikaners.

She was heavily criticized by the mainstream Afrikaans media last week because of comments she made regarding the euphoria surrounding Mandela day. Bridges said on her Facebook page that she would not idolize the “father of the militant struggle“(Mandela), and Anton Goosen, a liberal alienist song-writer and singer, replied by predictably accusing her of “racism.”2 Bridges, however, refused to let this meaningless accusation get the better of her and continued to proclaim her pride in her Boer heritage and culture.

Sunette follows in her father’s footsteps by launching and supporting actions that aim to provide help to the thousands of Afrikaner-Boer families living in the most horrendous conditions in South Africa today
