The Department of Correctional Services have freed Jacob Zuma after receiving the medical report, but have not provided further details of the report. The prisons service placed former President Jacob Zuma on medical parole, less than two months into his 15 month sentence for contempt of court.

Under the terms of his medical release, “must comply with a specific set of conditions and will be subjected to supervision until his sentence expires,” the statement read.

Vicki Momberg does not qualify for a reduced sentence, but the AbaThembu king jailed for violent crime is eligible

Real estate agent Vicki Momberg was sentenced to an effective two-year imprisonment for racist remarks to police and emergency services when she sought help after she was the victim of theft in North Riding in February 2016. The incident is on camera trapped.

Although the authenticity of Momberg’s words is undeniable, her sentence is surprising. A first offender convicted of crimen injuria will usually be sentenced to a fine and suspended jail on condition that the offender does not re-offend

Criminal Law Attorney Ulrich Roux was not impressed by Ramaphosa’s Christmas gift to many prisoners. Ramaphosa announced on Monday during Reconciliation Day in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal, that the punishment of certain categories of sentenced offenders will be reduced.

17-year-old disgruntled pupil who stabbed teacher to death after failing grade 7 gets 12 years in jail

A 17-year-old school pupil who stabbed a teacher to death in the Northern Cape was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment on Monday by the Khathu High Court.

The pupil stabbed his teacher with a knife at Manyeding Village near Kuruman in January 2018 after having failed grade 7, according to police.

The teacher was attacked at his home after the pupil – who cannot be identified due to his age – arrived at night and started breaking the windows with stones.

Basic education minister Angie Motshekga said at the time that she was horrified.

“When giving judgment, the judge emphasised that this sentence will send a strong message to other young people that once you commit crime you will be punished and account for your crimes,” said police spokesperson WO Mosimaneotsile Letsapa.
