SA Reserve Bank’s worst-case scenario fast becoming a reality – economy to lose 1.1 percentage points in growth, leading to the loss of 125 000 job opportunities

The SA Reserve Bank’s worst-case scenario, which would see the country’s economy lose 1.1 percentage points in growth and lead to the loss of 125 000 job opportunities, is fast becoming a reality.

The central bank’s latest forecasts predict that the economy will sacrifice 0.4 percentage points in GDP growth if Eskom’s availability factor declines to 65% for a few months.

If the power station fleet staggers to 60% availability, the expectation is that 1.1 percentage points will be lost.

Up until last week, Eskom had only been able to deliver 63% of its installed capacity.

The past week saw a historic low for Eskom, with the ailing state-owned enterprise being forced to implement stage 6 load shedding (rolling blackouts).
The current wave of rolling blackouts is the fourth time that extensive blackouts have occurred in South Africa since 2007.

Cabinet wants De Ruyter to take over from Eskom sooner – They have never sought a white man so quickly. It should be pretty rotten at Eskom

De Ruyter, currently CEO of the packaging company Nampak, would be appointed Eskom CEO on January 15, 2020. The final cabinet meeting of 2019 instructed Public Enterprise Minister Pravin Gordhan to negotiate with André de Ruyter to take over the reins at Eskom earlier.

Presidency Minister Jackson Mthembu addressed reporters on Tuesday about the December 13 cabinet meeting. He said De Ruyter would lead efforts to stabilize the management and technical operations at the power supply.

“The Cabinet fully supports all efforts that ensure power supply in our country. The Cabinet therefore instructed Minister Pravin Gordhan to De Ruyter to negotiate to start his duties faster, ”Mthembu added.

“Mr. de Ruyter and his management team will immediately address the issues of management and lack of financial management and stabilize operations at Eskom. This includes a major backlog of maintenance of the aging fleet of power stations and structural problems at Medupi a

Shosholoza train that was delayed for 9 hours left many passengers red under the collar – just another public service that does not provide service

A man who drove all the way from Velddrif to the West Coast to fetch his children and grandchildren at the Cape Town station is furious after the train only arrived there more than nine hours later.

James Swart says his children were on the Shosholoza Meyl, which was delayed about nine hours due to various technical problems.

They allegedly boarded the train at Klerksdorp on Sunday at 15:00. When he arrived in Cape Town at about 7.30 pm on Tuesday, there was no sign of the train. The train first arrived at the station at 4 am.

Swart’s children say the train apparently stood at Beaufort West Station for almost two hours and then another couple of hours at Lion Gamka.

“This meant that the train was almost nine hours late. No one informs the passengers or their family, who will pick them up at the station, ”Swart told Netwerk24.

During this time, he and his children lost contact due to a poor cellphone signal.

Chinese company told to stop building Transnet trains – including notorious R54.5bn procurement contract for 1,064 locomotives

State-owned logistics company Transnet has ordered Chinese locomotives company CRRC-E Loco to “cease activities” at its Pretoria Koedoespoort plant, where locomotive manufacturers, contracted as part of a group of companies to assemble locomotives, are based.

Mncedisi Ndlovu & Sedumedi (MNS) Attorneys, representing Transnet, last week sent letters to lawyers representing the Chinese electric locomotives manufacturers, instructing them to stop manufacturing the locomotives “with immediate effect”.

The company has been told to stop building pending the outcome of a review application of the notorious R54.5bn procurement contract for 1,064 locomotives. The contracts have already been declared irregular and unlawful.

CRRC-E Loco is the merger of China South Rail and China North Rail, which won three tenders worth more than R25bn to supply Transnet with locomotives. The first was for 95 locomotives, worth R2.7bn, the second for 100 locomotives, worth R4

EFF wants to lead the entire African continent to economic freedom with one currency, economy, and judiciary

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema on Sunday spelled out the party’s ambitious vision to lead the entire African continent to economic freedom.

Governing South Africa may have appeared to be a tall order for the EFF, but this was just one dream that formed part of even bolder ambitions.

Malema wants the six-year-old organisation to have a presence everywhere on the continent.

“Our vision is not these small-minded things you’re thinking about; we want to lead Africa. We want a United States of Africa with one currency, economy, and judiciary,” Malema said.

Has Malema had a conversation with the current Chairman of African Union (AU) because that is precisely the plan that was motivated back in the day of when Gaddaffi was leader of the AU to have open borders throughout Africa. One Currency, One Law. One Passport.
Cyril Ramaphosa will take up his new role next year as Chairman of the African Union.

More than 14,000 convicts will be free as birds after Ramaphosa approved amnesty and pardon

President Cyril Ramaphosa has approved the release of 14,647 offenders on pardons and remissions to mark Reconciliation Day.

On Monday, Ramaphosa granted a special remission of sentence to specific categories of sentenced offenders, probationers and parolees.

“Remissions of sentences are always carefully considered, taking into account the interests of the public and the administration of justice. We recognise that incarceration has followed a judicial process and that sentences have been duly imposed after conviction,” the president said.

Justice Minister Ronald Lamola said the process would start immediately and may take up to nine months.

The pardons will not include offenders sentenced for sexual offences, murder and attempted murder, armed robbery, mentally-ill sedition, high treason, sabotage and terrorism.

As of November 2019, there were 163,015 offenders across the country’s 243 correctional centres for both sentenced and remand detainees. The

NO SABOTAGE AT ESKOM – POWER GRID IN SA FACES TOTAL COLLAPSE

Now the truth comes out, and it is not what Ramaphosa told you . Ramaphosa told the country this past Wednesday that sabotage was the reason for phase 6 loadshedding and it happened when an unspecified instrument was disconnected from one of the boilers at the Tutuka power station and that this led to the loss of as much as 2000MW of power.

But in an investigation by Rapport this statement was found not to be true.

The truth is a lack of planning and maintenance of power stations, especially the boilers. Rapport has spoken to both an energy expert, Mike Rossouw, and Solidarity who has many members in that sector and the true state of Eskom was revealed by them. The loss of 2 units at Tutuka power station, where Ramaphosa said sabotage is to blame, has more logical reasons and it boils down to a lack of maintenance.

Brutal farm attack at Hartbeespoort farm, elderly man still critical after 5 weeks – This is the work of savages!

On 3 December 2019, a brutal farm attack took place in Hartbeespoort, North West province of South Africa.

Johan (60), was attacked in his home and badly assaulted and tied up. Andrew Brown, the man’s son, commented on social media, “This is how my Dad looks today 5 weeks after the farm attack. It hurts to see him like this most people know how he looked before the farm attack. To think that attackers can be so cruel and destroy families. Medical accounts are still pouring in everyday.”

The attackers beat and kicked the elderly man and then cut off his ear in an attempt to find firearms and cash. He was only found about 5 hours after the attack. Johan was found lying in his own blood in a critical condition and was stabilized on the scene before rushing him to Eugene Marais Hospital in Pretoria where he is struggling to recover.

Taxpayers coughed up R32m on VIP treatment for EFF delegates in its second elective conference

You, yes you taxpayer just coughed up R32 million so that the EFF can hold conference in style at Nasrec. Whilst their top leaders are implicated in serious corruption cases in which tens of millions were funneled to their slush funds by tenderpreneurs.

The EFF has spent well over R32m on its second elective conference, the national people’s assembly (NPA), giving its delegates VIP treatment, treasurer general Leigh-Ann Mathys told journalists on Friday.

Mathys said statutory bodies from legislature and National Assembly contributed to the expense.

“We have now increased our seats in Parliament. We have pretty much doubled in Parliament and also at all our legislatures. Our income from the IEC (Electoral Commission of SA), from Parliament and from the provincial legislatures has pretty much doubled since June 2014,” she said.

She added that the R32m was spent on transporting delegates and obtaining space at the Nasrec expo centre.
