Russia announces that they are writing off R20bn of Africa’s debt

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced at the first Russia-Africa Summit jointly hosted by Russia and the African Union (AU) in Sochi, Russia, that the country has written off more than $20 billion of Africa’s debt. He also intends to double his trade with countries in Africa within the next four to five years.

Russia hopes to strengthen its ties with Africa at the summit after it weakened after the fall of the former Soviet Union at the end of the Cold War. Dozens of African leaders, including South Africa’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa, and pres. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt, attends the summit.

Putin said there are many Russian companies that have a long and successful partnership with companies in Africa and are hoping to expand it. Although Russia has sold a large number of weapons to countries in Africa over the years, it is far behind its competitors in the commercial area on trade. Liquidations on the rise in South Africa – number of liquidations increased by 13.7% during the first seven months of 2019 with 183 business liquidation recorded in July

South Africa recorded 183 business liquidations in July 2019, representing a 24.5% rise from 147 liquidations recorded a year ago, according to StatsSA.

The stats body said that 1,198 liquidations were recorded so far this year (January to July), higher than the 1,054 recorded in the same period last year.

The report found that the financing, insurance, real estate, business services sectors saw the most closures, followed by the trade, catering and accommodation sector.

Those in the financing, insurance, real estate and business services were most likely to file for insolvency in South Africa while those working in electricity, gas and water were the least likely to go insolvent.

The total number of liquidations increased by 13.7% during the first seven months of 2019 compared with the first seven months of 2018, StatsSA said.

The ANC’s racist land grab requires, by US law, that the USA ceases trading with South Africa according to their AGOA Trade Agreement. Could that be the reason USA and UK are forced to pretend that Ramaphosa’s racist land grab is lawful and ok?

Ramaphosa’s racist land grab is clearly, patently and obviously both immoral and hugely destructive, yet South Africa has not been warned, threatened or actually expelled from either the Commonwealth or the “African Growth and Opportunity Act” (AGOA), which clearly states that countries which trade with USA, that do not respect property rights, should be expelled from this trade agreement!
