12 Municipalities in the Eastern Transvaal are under suspicion of mismanagement and corruption – R2 billion worth of wasteful expenditure incurred

The Zondo Commission, which raises millions of rand from the state treasury, has now had to shift its focus to the Eastern Transvaal to hear evidence of corruption and state capture in state-owned entities.

Corruption in many municipalities in the province, as well as mismanagement and maladministration, seems to have been addressed.

At least 12 municipalities are suspected of being guilty of corruption and mismanagement, and it appears the municipalities of, among others, Piet Retief, Lydenburg, Carolina, Balfour, Volksrust, Ermelo, Standerton, Middelburg and Delmas and three location municipalities are in danger .

According to a report by the Auditor-General, about R2 billion of expenditure was incurred unlawfully among the municipalities, and more than R236 million was a mere waste of funds.

Of all the illegal expenses, one particular case was pointed out in excess of R5 million paid for repairing a road that does not exist at all.

Money Robbed from VBS Mutual Bank: detailed account of how EFF leader Julius Malema’s lifestyle, business prospects and political aspirations were funded

ONE. The lifestyle, business prospects and political aspirations of EFF president Julius Malema were funded from the R16.1-million robbed from VBS Mutual Bank and paid out to Sgameka Projects, the company of the brother of EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu, Brian.

Malema’s share of the loot was R5.3-million and it was dumped into his slush fund, Mahuna Investments. Malema spent the VBS money on clothing from Gucci and Louis Vuitton, groceries from Checkers and Woolworths, the Polokwane party venue Mekete Lodge, the house he once rented in Sandown, Johannesburg, as well as on accommodation and travel costs between EFF events. The name of his eldest son appears in the bank statements relating to school fees, and a trust named after his second son also received a small amount of VBS money. And yes, a big chunk of VBS money was used for the benefit of the EFF. Over 40% of the transactions Scorpio analysed further show the bank card followed Malema around the country

ANC-regime is blatantly misusing our money on its own election campaign, the Free State SOPA expenditure is going to cost the taxpayer more than R2 million

The Free State’s State of the Province Address (SOPA) will probably cost taxpayers more than R2 million. The greater part of the expense was not budgeted for nor planned and yet the money has already been squandered without the necessary approval.

The extravagant expense becomes even more unacceptable and fruitless when one takes into account that there will be another SOPA after the elections later this year.

The ANC is misusing taxpayers’ money by furthering its own election campaign with official government functions.

This year’s SOPA, which will be held on Tuesday at the University of the Free State’s Vista campus, will once again be characterised by excessive expenditure. The service provider’s fee for organising the event currently amounts to approximately R1,8 million.
