Grade 9 Certificate almost official – learners will now be able to leave school sooner and of course unemployment rate will also rise

Cyril Ramaphosa approved the proposed education policy that allows learners to leave school in grade 9.  The move will allow learners to obtain a Grade 9 certificate and enter the workforce.

Angie Motshekga criticized her proposal for her fierce criticism but it now becomes official ANC policy. According to Ramaphosa, the move will focus on integrating learners sooner into the country’s workforce and the country’s economy.

With a matric certificate already worth little more than the paper on which it is printed, the step should be seen as an attempt to “improve” matric results due to a large number of learners leaving school at an early age.

Educators point out that the matrices do not find work, and that the Grade 9 pupils that leave school will increase the unemployment rate that will affect t SA to be graded more quickly to junk status in the economic field.

38,9% Is The ‘Real’ Matric Pass Rate, According To The DA

The DA has claimed that the matric pass rate is incorrect, just after the announcement of the 2019 results by Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga’s bluff saying that her announcement of 81.3% for the 2019 matric pass rate is incorrect and the ‘real’ pass rate is in fact 38.9%.

In the statement, the DA congratulated each learner who passed the NSC examination, however had this to say:

“Whilst Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga and the Department of Education are celebrating an all-time high matric pass rate of 81.3%, the Democratic Alliance can reveal that the real pass rate is in fact 38.9%.”

Why a pass rate of 38.9%?

DA Minister of Basic Education, Nomsa Marchesi explained that in 2017, a total of 1 052 080 learners were enrolled in grade 10, yet only 409 906 learners eventually passed matric last year.

Rumours that the minimum pass requirement for maths has been “reduced to 20%” is fake says Department of Education- Or is it?

The government are trying to kill rumours and denies that the minimum pass requirements for math for gr. 7 to gr. 9 are reduced to 20%. However, education unions believe this is not the biggest concern facing this sector at present.

Chris Klopper, chief executive of the South African Teachers Union said on Monday that the department’s plans to automatically advance pupils in the foundation phase (Gr. 1, Gr. 2 and Gr. 3) should rather to be a bigger concern in education circles.

Mugwena Maluleke, general secretary of the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadou), also made it clear on Monday that the largest trade union in the sector also does not support the automatic promotion of such pupils.

The unions responded after the Department of Basic Education on Sunday strongly denied rumors on social media platforms that the minimum pass requirement for math was “reduced to 20%” for the senior phase of gr. 7 to gr. 9 and dismissed it as “fake news”.

Panyaza Lesufi could be replaced as Gauteng education MEC if AfriForum gets its way

AfriForum’s campaign demanding the removal of Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi from office began on Wednesday with an online petition calling for his removal.

The minority-rights organisation said it would also hand over a memorandum to Gauteng premier David Makhura at his offices in the Johannesburg CBD on Thursday, in which it will ask that Lesufi be dismissed.

Before handing over the memorandum, AfriForum said it will start by laying criminal charges at the Johannesburg Central police station relating to the education department’s alleged misappropriation of more than R900m.

AfriForum announced on Tuesday that it would launch its campaign to remove Lesufi when it responded to a statement by the department that 14,000 grade 1 and grade 8 learners had not been placed in schools.

Lesufi stirring havoc! Gauteng Department of Education might place Afrikaans learners in township schools

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) will now introduce English and Afrikaans as the language of teaching and learning in township schools, in an effort to accommodate displaced learners in this province.

This is a statement by the GDE on Tuesday. According to this, the department will help schools that received few enrollments for 2020 to appoint qualified teachers who can teach in English and Afrikaans. These schools are mostly located in townships and some have received only 16 applications for gr. 1- or gr. 8 learners to attend school here next year.

The civil rights organization AfriForum will now demand in a letter written to the Gauteng Prime Minister and ask that the Education MEC in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, resign. “We will also file criminal charges for corruption and malpractice within the GDE under the leadership of Lesufi,” said Carien Bloem, AfriForum’s education coordinator. Planned content for sex education in state-run schools is nothing but “soft porn”

New curriculum that forms part of the Life Orientation course, which is expected to be implemented from Grade 4 to Grade 12 in 2020, involves pupils identifying their genitals in class, commenting on bare pictures used in sex-texting messages, and learning what involves vaginal, oral and anal sex. Minister of Education, Angie Motshekga, has apparently already also approved much of this content.

The content was recently made available to members of parliament and published on the group Freedom of Religion South Africa (FOR). According to this, gr.4 learners will during group discussions, identify their own and their classmates’ sexual parts . Gr. 5’s will learn about homosexual molestation and sexual assault and grade 6s will be asked what they think of photos of naked people sent in Whatsapp messages. Matric exam disrupted by load shedding – will power failures now be blamed for poor performance among learners?

The load shed unannounced by the bankrupt power supply led to the disruption in exam rooms where matrics had to stop their exams at dusk.

Nearly 35 schools were disrupted at the same time on Wednesday’s during loadshedding and parents, teachers and pupils were outraged at the unannounced load at the most impossible time when exams were taken.

The Department of Education is awaiting feedback from provinces on the events and the way in which they handled the power failure.

Educators are concerned that the power outage will now be used by the Education Department as an excuse for poor performance.

Phase 2, which will be applicable for Thursday and Friday, means that schools can expect a power outage at any time from 9 am to 11 pm.

ANC-regime’s ‘Two-year’ matric grand plan flops as only 8% of progressed pupils pass – But they still blame Verwoerd for the current flaws in education system?

The government’s grand move to have “progressed” matric pupils write their exams over two years has bombed – only 8% passed

The results of these pupils, who were pushed into matric after failing grade 11 more than once, were disclosed to the Sunday Times by the department of basic education last week.

SA’s latest matric pass rate is 8%. It was achieved by “progressed” pupils — those pushed into grade 12 after failing grade 11 more than once — and who were given two years to write matric.

Of the 78,363 of these pupils who wrote their final school exams in November and June, 6,320 passed.

Education experts who spoke to the Sunday Times this week said the pupils had been set up for failure because the plan was based on an incorrect assumption that a lowered workload would lead to better results.

ANC-government wants to close down about 3,000 schools’ doors due to a reduction learner numbers

The Department of Basic Education is aiming to close a few thousand schools due to the reduction in student numbers.

The schools that are affected the most in the country have apparently received notice that a certain number of pupils are required to keep a school’s doors open.

The majority of schools are located in rural areas, and the Eastern Cape is most affected by the arrangement.

According to a spokesperson for the Department, a primary school should have no less than 135 pupils, and secondary schools should have more than 225 pupils.

Investigations show that about 3,000 schools are likely to be affected, meaning pupils should be enrolled elsewhere.

Over 250,000 Undocumented Pupils In Gauteng Schools – most of them migrants from neighbouring countries

JOHANNESBURG – Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi on Wednesday said provincial schools were catering for more than 250,000 undocumented pupils.

Lesufi made the comment as he delivered his submissions before the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) inquiry looking into service delivery problems in Alexandra.

The hearing was launched following protests over a lack of services in the township.

The investigation was testing a range of matters including the root causes of the Alex shut down earlier this year and possible maladministration in the controversial multimillion-rand Alex Renewal Project.

In his oral submission, Lesufi revealed how the admissions of non-documented learners affected his department’s budget.

“It’s R18,000 per learner, that is the amount that we spend. So, if you check 250,000 [learners] and times that by R18,000, that is the amount of money that we are losing,” he said.
