Misappropriation of R5.8 bil, Afriforum to lay charges – NHI violates constitution

During a media conference held on 18 November 2019, AfriForum launched a comprehensive report on why the implementation of National Health Insurance (NHI) in South Africa will be unconstitutional. The report further explains why the impact study on which the NHI is based, is totally inadequate which means that the Bill should be set aside.

“According to the report, Section 27 of the Constitution only provides for access to healthcare. Nowhere does it indicate that the state is obliged to provide healthcare to everyone. In fact, if the government’s intervention hinders this access, it is unconstitutional. When one considers the current state of affairs in the department of health, the state most definitely doesn’t have the capacity to provide healthcare services to the whole country. It will therefore be unconstitutional for the state to effectively take control of the private health sector,” says Natasha Venter, AfriForum’s spokesperson for NHI.

Lesufi stirring havoc! Gauteng Department of Education might place Afrikaans learners in township schools

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) will now introduce English and Afrikaans as the language of teaching and learning in township schools, in an effort to accommodate displaced learners in this province.

This is a statement by the GDE on Tuesday. According to this, the department will help schools that received few enrollments for 2020 to appoint qualified teachers who can teach in English and Afrikaans. These schools are mostly located in townships and some have received only 16 applications for gr. 1- or gr. 8 learners to attend school here next year.

The civil rights organization AfriForum will now demand in a letter written to the Gauteng Prime Minister and ask that the Education MEC in Gauteng, Panyaza Lesufi, resign. “We will also file criminal charges for corruption and malpractice within the GDE under the leadership of Lesufi,” said Carien Bloem, AfriForum’s education coordinator. Standerton water crisis – poor management and incompetency of municipality costing millions

South Africa’s largest poultry farm, Astral Foods, which is seeing its profits wane, is powerless due to water shortages in Standerton.

Due to the severe water crisis, the poultry farm became obliged to exploit its own water source by sinking boreholes in order to survive.

The poor management of the municipality to fail to supply water has driven the company out of millions of Rand.

The costs incurred, amid a poor economic situation in the country, as well as the ever-rising cost of fodder to be purchased, have left the company behind.

Economists point out that the water crisis not only causes great economic consequences in Standerton, but also in the Vaal Dam and other larger water storage ponds are serious problems, and the hope is that the Katsedam in Lesotho is in a position to water to provide when the tunnel maintenance is completed by the end of November.

New white CEO of Eskom not welcomed with open arms – Numsa: ‘De Ruyter’s appointment as Eskom CEO an insult to Africans’

The recent appointment of Andre de Ruyter to the position of Eskom CEO has been met with mixed emotions, particularly by trade unions and fervent supporters of the Radical Economic Transformation (RET) agenda.

Although the African National Congress (ANC) has welcomed the appointment of de Ruyter, at a time when Eskom is teetering on the brink of both operational and financial collapse, union allies have been less hospitable.

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa), which currently has its hands full with a particularly nasty South African Airways (SAA) strike, condemned the appointment of de Ruyter. WATCH: Women carry dead body into Old Mutual after ‘failure’ to pay out funeral claim

Two women have left social media users in both shock and admiration after taking a family member’s dead body to an Old Mutual branch after the company allegedly refused to pay out the funeral claim.

Unconfirmed reports say the incident took place in KwaZulu-Natal.

In a video that has been doing the rounds, two women can be seen picking up the body, in a blue bag.

The women can be heard saying that they only took the body to the branch because the bank “refused” to pay out the funeral claim.

Social media users were left in shock and angry with the bank for leaving the family in a position to resort to such actions to be heard.

Joburg’s Park Station chaos – Total shut down after security workers vandalise property

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa on Tuesday was forced to close Park Station in Johannesburg after security staff allegedly damaged property because they had lost their jobs.

No trains were entering or leaving the station and platforms 10, 11 and 12 were damaged.

Prasa spokesperson Nana Zenani said: “Some of our shops were looted even though there was security stationed in the area. I suspect that if we did close the railway station, it would have been the worst situation. Security gates with glass were broken as well as a ticket office and the stoning of one of our trains, which was removed from the line for safety.”

Metrorail apologised to commuters for the inconvenience saying the circumstances were unforeseen.

It’s understood security workers vandalised Park Station because their contracts were terminated.

Zuma branded as defaulter, owes R12,517 for unpaid school fees, maybe he must consider subsidy?

It is not only the arrears of the Nkandla bond that make Zuma a defaulter, but also the fact that his children’s unpaid school fees earns him the title.

The liquidators of the bankrupt declared VBS Bank now hope to get their money by auctioning the Nkandla unit, but it is still a lengthy process before it is going to happen.

Political analysts say Zuma has the ability to postpone all actions and court cases against him with reasons that are sometimes somewhat laughable.

Whether the former ANC leader has no money and whether he is merely a defaulter remains an unanswered question, because to date one of his children’s school fees is also overdue.

A high school near Durban has now issued an order against Zuma and his fourth wife, one Nompumelelo Ntuli, 44, for unpaid school fees amounting to R12,517-00.

Reona Ramnarain, of the Bentley Attorneys, confirmed that the bill was unpaid, but the school’s name was not disclosed for some reasons.

State attorney fatally wounded in court case after firearm filed as evidence goes off

State Attorney Addelaid Ferreira-Watt fell victim during a court hearing after a firearm went of and the bullet fatally struck her.

Addelaid Ferreira-Watt is a senior prosecutor who was killed by the freak accident while on duty in court on Monday.

The court hearing took place in the regional court in Ixopo, Natal, and she was immediately transported to a hospital where she later died.

It was later reported that the weapon had fallen, and at that time the shot went off and hit her.

The 51-year-old lawyer, Addelaid Ferreira-Watt, was hit in the hip, and the hospital spokeswoman did not want to reveal any further details.

Former Natal Hawks chief Johan Booysen expressed his shock over the fatal incident.

The firearm is a shotgun, and left a large wound due to the short distance.

Only 11 shortlisted candidates applied for Transnet CEO post

Only 11 candidates have submitted applications that qualify to be shortlisted for the post of major boss for Transnet, three of whom are CEOs of the rail service.

The state-controlled entity, whose finances are also not too rosy, apparently has 11 candidates from which a new CEO will be appointed.

The appointment comes after the previous chief, Siyabonga Gama, was fired, and is only expected to be finalized in a week or more.

In addition to Transnet’s board of directors, an outside agency’s expertise was apparently used to interview and make a final decision.

Farm owner behind bars after killing intruder in car – How corrupt is the SA legal system!

A man caught in a car on a farm has been shot dead, but now the farm owner is in jail. The incident occurred on the farm Eensome near Roossenekal.

Mr. Willem Daniel Ackermann apparently saw a light inside his Honda CRV vehicle, which was parked on his premises.
He approached and saw an unknown man inside the car.

According to Mr. Markus Basson, who chaired the Roossenekal Farm Safety Forum for five years, said Ackermann asked the man who he was and what he was looking for.

According to police, the suspect got out of the vehicle and went to Mr. Moving to Ackermann.
Police say five shots were fired in total and the suspect was fatally wounded.

According to Mr. Basson was also given a knife at the scene.

The ambulance services declared the suspect dead at the scene.

Mr. Ackermann was arrested on the charge of murder and has already appeared in Groblersdal’s Magistrate’s Court.

The case has been postponed until a later date.
